SENIOR MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER (UK)

 

Reporting to: Head of Engineering
Job Type: Full Time
Location: Heyford Park, Bicester

ROLE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

      • Encourage innovation within the engineering team
      • Design of components and systems for an electromechanical environment using FEA and hand calculations
      • Input to the mechanical design process for electromechanical systems to ensure correct design solutions and appropriate materials are used for the final environment
      • Perform reviews of mechanical projects to ensure that they will meet their technical requirements and timescales
      • Develop the company’s in-house test faculties to ensure compliance with customer
      • specifications. Experience in the set-up of electromagnetic test facilities would be an advantage
      • Encourage best practice in engineering and CAD within the team and ensure continual development of the engineering procedures
      • Liaise with customers and outside subcontractors at in-house and external meetings
      • Provide technical assistance to the Sales and Production teams
      • Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures and promote a culture of health and safety within the company

     

    PROFILE/SKILLS

     

        • Degree in mechanical or automotive engineering
        • Over 8 years experience as a mechanical engineer in a design environment
        • Knowledge of European and international standards with 10 years of relevant work experience, preferably gained within the electric motor or automotive industries
        • Strong operational and project management skills in a mechanical engineering environment
        • Solid understanding of engineering technical issues related to product design and development
        • Experience of hands-on development of mechanical components preferably in an electromechanical environment is a ncie to have
        • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally if required

    Power Electronics Engineer

    Saietta is currently recruiting a Power Electronics Engineer to contribute with innovative technical solutions in the development phase of our electronic designs. The successful candidate will have the experience, skills and motivation to ensure the further successful development of all the further electronic devices that will be used for the control of the functionalities of the Saietta electrical motors.

     

    ROLE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

     

        • Perform electronics design activities, including: PCB design and layout, BOM generation, design verification with analytic and mathematical tools, electrical and functional testing
        • Be able to work in a team of engineers in the design of new power electronic modules to meet project milestones
        • Be able to develop thermal management solutions for high power electronics
        • Perform all the tasks regarding the creation of the documentation related to the release of any intermediate design phase as the support of the Senior Engineers and Managerial team
        • Be able to follow internal standards and procedures including automotive standards and quality related requirements
        • Perform EMC/ESD investigations and provide solutions to improve the capabilities of the developed systems;
        • Participate in review sessions in the evaluation of the technical result of the team;
        • Support the engineering team with electronic technical developments or investigations when required;
        • Demonstrate a creative attitude, to find new solutions and investigate for novel technologies and their application

    PROFILE/SKILLS

     

        • Good understanding of analogue and digital electronics (at least 3 years of experience, preferable with applications in power electronics)
        • Good understanding of continuous and transient thermal management of high power electronics
        • Good understanding of power electronic devices (e.g. MOSFETs, IGBT’s) selection and the design of drive circuits
        • Good understanding of various SMPS topologies
        • Previous experience with designing electronic systems with redundancy and FIT rate analysis would be preferred
        • Previous experience with designing safety critical electronic control units for vehicles would be preferred
        • Experience of electronics testing and verification
        • Good understanding and expertise with EMC testing and the design techniques used to achieve the imposed limits
        • Experience of the automotive sector would be preferred
        • Experience of failure analysis in electronic devices (FMEA, DFMEA), safety standards (such as ISO 26262) and the related design solutions
        • Experience of designing electronics for manufacture
        • Excellent documentation and traceability skills
        • Have a ‘hands on’ and ‘can do’ attitude
        • Be innovative, proactive and be able to provide alternative solutions to issues
        • Open to travel abroad when projects require it (less than 10% from the total time of work)
        • Being a licenced motor-cycle rider or having a willingness to learn would be a plus
